The Nuts and Bolts of Robotical Sandy Enoch set up Robotical in 2016 after completing a PhD in Robotics, his thesis being on walking robots. In conceiving Marty, Sandy’s objective was to create a characterful, human-like robot that his niece, at the time six or seven, could use to make learning the basics of coding more like child’s play and less like hard graft.

Putting his well-honed inventor skills to use, Sandy designed and built Marty V1 from scratch, got the seal of approval from his niece and then secured start-up funding via a crowdfund on Indiegogo to put the first 1,000 Marty V1’s into production.

Three further seed rounds have followed (2019, 2022 and 2023), raising c. $2m to bring Marty V2 to market, scale up production, grow distribution, build the team. International from the start, over 10,000 Marty’s have now been sold with resellers across Europe, Africa, Asia and North and South America.
